OnTarget Wins Coveted Business Action on Health Award for Contributions to Global Health
Kansas City, Missouri, OnTarget announced that their HIV Infant Tracking System won the Business Action on Health award, one the most coveted honors in the area of corporate social responsibility, in the Innovation and Technology category yesterday.
OnTarget’s HIV Infant Tracking System (HITSystem) is a web-based, automated intervention designed to overcome current emerging infectious disease barriers (EID) by tracking HIV-exposed infants. To date, the HITSystem has enrolled nearly 12,000 HIV-exposed infants at over 110 health facilities in Kenya, Tanzania, and Malawi. The HITSystem is customized to trigger unique electronic alerts in each country, based on country-specific EID algorithms and, therefore, is well-positioned to expand to other countries.
Originated by GBC Health and now carried out by Global Health Council, the Business Action on Health Awards have been recognizing the private sectors’ important contributions to improving global health for over a decade. The Awards owe their prestige in part to the rigorous evaluation procedure undertaken by the panel of internationally- respected independent judges from across the private, non-profit and academic, multilateral and government sectors. This year’s finalists were selected from the vast number of nominations from a variety of industries and geographic regions across the world.
Terry Oehrke, President of Ontarget has the following to say about winning the award. “Winning this 2015 Global Health Council award in the Innovation and Technology category is a huge honor. We develop custom web and mobile systems for various business and health situations. Even though we’re very proud of this award we are even more proud of the life-saving difference that the HITSystem has made to thousands of babies exposed to HIV.”
The two winners and five commended businesses were presented awards at Global Health Council’s Global Health Leadership Series Landscape Symposium, “Achieving Universality in Global Health: An Imperative for Change, ” where key opinion leaders and policy makers explored and debated the most pressing issues being addressed by the global health community.
“Our private sector partners, like OnTarget. show that real social impact is achievable through innovative, multi-sector approaches,” said Global Health Council President and Executive Director, Christine Sow. “We are thrilled to be able to recognize their efforts through these awards, efforts that are critical as we work collaboratively on today’s most pressing health issues.”
